Know Me Better

Know Me Better

Welcome to Ella Medler’s site.

This is a place of writerly worship.

I am a published author and co-author, an opinionated book reviewer and article writer, a cantankerous proper grammar and punctuation user, and most of all, a dedicated writers’ friend. Always a dreamer of huge dreams and a savourer of life. You are welcome to have a look around, read a little, learn a little, make friends and engage in conversations. I look forward to meeting you.

If you’re thinking of getting a little closer still, you can visit me in lovely, sunny Cornwall, where I live in an ivory tower, away from all mundane annoyances such as kids’ school reports, the cost of living, what to cook for dinner or whether I’ll ever manage to find enough hours in a day to achieve everything I want to achieve. I never worry about a thing, and daily sack and re-hire a full complement of staff, simply to keep up with contemporary expectations and my own demands. You can rent a palatial penthouse for next-to-nothing and spend all day sunning yourself by the infinity pool while a chorus of excited fans recite snippets of written masterpieces, old and new.

And if you believed all that… well… you don’t know me very well. Yes, it’s fiction I write. Good guess.

Hi Ella, I live in Cornwall and I know that ivory tower you mention. I was just about to jump into my car, drive over and dive into your infinity pool (mine is closed for the winter) when something struck me as odd – sunshine! it must be a mythical county, If you look at the blog on my website http://www.johnfhanley.co.uk you will see some pictures of the village I live in. Yes, the sun was shining that evening – it had too as it was Carnival and we’d paid the pixies. By the way, do you really review books or is that something you delegate to your staff?

Yes, I saw the pixies when I had a look around your site.
I do review fiction novels – I fit some of these in amongst other tasks. Depending on how busy I am, I could take two days or two weeks (once or twice I took longer). Did you check some of the reviews, then? Click on categories/book reviews (beneath the Versatile Blogger badge), and browse at leisure.
My staff are mainly tasked with throwing some food and coffee my way, and checking I’m still breathing every now and then. Oh, and tending the grounds, of course. Must keep that pool sparkling just in case the sun deigns us with the odd ray.

        Ella,

I did wonder as you seem so busy for the next few months but, with staff to look after your premises and pool, I suppose you do have some leisure time available.

Unfortunately, I do have to manage my own pool but as it’s closed at present I do have time to pester star bloggers for reviews.

If you are interested in a closer look at Against The Tide please let me know.

If you did read and like it I can offer a weekend in the real Cornwall by a real pool next season but unless you pay the pixies I can’t guarantee sunshine.

Pasties and cream teas are complimentary and prepared by loyal villagers.

        All the best

        John
